Learning Analytics for Smart Learning

چکیده
Although several qualitative analyses appeared in the domain of Learning Analytics (LA), a systematic quantitative analysis of the effects of the empirical research findings toward the development of more reliable Smart Learning Environments (SLE) is still missing. This chapter aims at preserving and enhancing the chronicles of recent LA developments as well as covering the Z. Papamitsiou (*) • A.A. The core question is where these two research areas intersect and how the significant LA research findings could be beneficial for guiding the construction of SLEs. This meta-analysis study synthesizes research on the effectiveness of LA and targets at determining the influence of its dimensions on learning outcomes so far. Sixty-six experimental and quasi-experimental papers published from 2009 through September 2015 in the domain of LA were coded and analyzed. Overall, the weighted random effects mean effect size (g) was 0.433 (p = 0.001). The collection was heterogeneous (Qt(66) = 78.47). Here, the results of the statistical and classification processes applied during the meta-analysis process are presented and the most important issues raised are discussed.

A General Framework for Learning Analytic in a Smart Classroom
In this paper, we propose the utilization of the “Learning Analytics” paradigm in a Smart Classroom, a classroom that integrates artificial intelligence technology on the educational process. Learning Analytics can extract knowledge from the Smart Classroom platform, to better understand students and his/her learning processes. In this way, a Smart Classroom can understand and optimize the lear...

In particular, we describe the contributions presented at the International Workshop of Smart Environments and Analytics on Video-Based Learning (SE@VBL) and envision the future of this research area. SE@VBL presents the current state-ofthe-art in the design, ...
متن کاملDeep Learning for Reliable Mobile Edge Analytics in Intelligent Transportation Systems
Intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) will be a major component of tomorrow’s smart cities. However, realizing the true potential of ITSs requires ultra-low latency and reliable data analytics solutions that can combine, in realtime, a heterogeneous mix of data stemming from the ITS network and its environment. Such data analytics capabilities cannot be provided by conventional cloud-centri...
متن کاملA Hybrid ICT-Solution for Smart Meter Data Analytics
Smart meters are increasingly used worldwide. Smart meters are the advanced meters capable of measuring energy consumption at a fine-grained time interval, e.g., every 15 minutes. Smart meter data are typically bundled with social economic data in analytics, such as meter geographic locations, weather conditions and user information, which makes the data sets very sizable and the analytics comp...
متن کاملDeep Learning Algorithms with Applications to Video Analytics for A Smart City: A Survey
Deep learning has recently achieved very promising results in a wide range of areas such as computer vision, speech recognition and natural language processing. It aims to learn hierarchical representations of data by using deep architecture models. In a smart city, a lot of data (e.g. videos captured from many distributed sensors) need to be automatically processed and analyzed. In this paper,...
متن کاملReview of Smart Meter Data Analytics: Applications, Methodologies, and Challenges
The widespread popularity of smart meters enables an immense amount of fine-grained electricity consumption data to be collected. Meanwhile, the deregulation of the power industry, particularly on the delivery side, has continuously been moving forward worldwide. How to employ massive smart meter data to promote and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the power grid is a pressing issue...
